2016 Grand Rapids GiveCamp Projects

They make a powerful impact in our community here in West Michigan and we are proud to give back by providing technology solutions to support program outreach, development, and operational objectives.

This year we are honored to be working with the AIGA initiative, Design for Good, on three “Bridge Agency” projects. As a two community team, we know we can make a greater impact for our participating agencies and the populations they serve.

 

Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids Housing Corporation

Dwelling Place improves the lives of people by creating quality affordable housing, providing essential support services and serving as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization.

GiveCamp project: Create a visually appealing, easily managed, dynamic dashboard to display reports from a wide variety of sources.

 

Harbor Humane Society

Harbor Humane Society is a 501(c)-3 non-profit serving the needs of animals in Ottawa County. Harbor Humane Society’s mission is to provide a safe harbor for animals entrusted to our care as we strive to secure their future through our outreach and educational programs.

GiveCamp project: New redesigned website focused on manageability and better interactions with donors, volunteers, and adopters.

 

Crash’s landing and Big Sid’s Sanctuary

Crash’s Landing and Big Sid’s Sanctuary are devoted to taking at-risk stray cats off the streets of the greater Grand Rapids area, providing them with veterinary care, and housing them in our facilities until dedicated, loving permanent homes can be found.

GiveCamp project: Create a volunteer portal to facilitate effective communication with volunteers and build a database of donors, adopters, and supporters for outreach and tracking purposes.

 

Steepletown Neighborhood Services

Steepletown is transforming lives within the urban core communities of Grand Rapids and the surrounding region through education, workforce development, and community empowerment. This creates hope that is rooted in opportunity, which ultimately leads to a sense of well-being and economic security.

GiveCamp project: Digitization of paper forms and data collection to streamline the applications process and simplify sharing of participant information with other departments.

 

School to Career Progressions

Founded in 2000, School-to-Career Progressions is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that began as a derivative of Cascade Engineering’s highly successful Welfare-To-Career Program, which achieved an 80% retention rate in hiring welfare recipients.
Using this model, Progressions has partnered with Northeast Middle, Godwin Middle, Wyoming Middle, and Central and Union High schools to offer character coaching and career training programs within the school curriculum.

GiveCamp project: Utilize provided wireframes/mockups to create a “Character Coach” iOS app to encourage middle school students to make good choices based on best practices.

 

West Michigan Community Relief

WMCR builds a bridge to independence for refugees and others in need by providing food, furniture, and tools to support them to self-sufficiency.

GiveCamp project: Create a donor-friendly, easily accessible website to support their marketing and mission goals.

 

Partners in Compassionate Care

Partners in Compassionate Care (PCC) exists for the purpose of providing Christ-centered hope and healing to the people of South Sudan. To enable the South Sudanese to own and operate Memorial Christian Hospital (MCH) on a sustainable basis, with appropriate governance and support.

GiveCamp project: Redesign website to highlight new media focused on key values, stories, and mission.

 

Access of West Michigan

Access of West Michigan began in 1981 in response to federal government cutbacks for social services programs. A group of faith-based and community leaders recognized the need for central coordination of services in order to prevent duplication and maximize resources.There are over 300 Kent County congregations working with Access of West Michigan to meet needs in our community. Access plays a unique and important role in this community by linking those in need with others who can help. The organization coordinates food pantry distribution to all service providers in West Michigan.

GiveCamp project: A new mobile friendly website with consistent – and inviting – brand identity to better communicate with the public.

 

Jubilee Jobs

Jubilee Jobs programs are centered on a family wellness model, implementing workforce development and employment readiness curriculum aimed at connecting individuals to real and sustainable hope. We are the place to go to take a GED class in Grand Rapids.

GiveCamp project: Create a mobile first website capable of accepting donations and sharing information about the organization and the population served.

 

Camp Roger

Since 1913, children and families have encountered and experienced God’s love at Camp Roger through relationships and experiences in Creation. Over the past 100+ years, camp has grown significantly and last year alone, served over 12,000 campers and students from many surrounding school districts. The organization enables outdoor experiences and learning at their camp in Rockford, MI.

GiveCamp project: Transition their website into new CRM to promote the Camp Roger brand and move towards simple and dynamic content integration.

 

Warrior’s Set Free

Warriors Set Free seeks to assist current and former military service members with spiritual healing from Jesus Christ.

GiveCamp project: New website to make it easy for veterans to access information about WSF and learn how to receive services.

 

Extended Grace

Extended Grace is a nonprofit social justice/human rights agency that works with people at the grassroots to identify issues and concerns and then build a collaborative network to facilitate innovative ways to bring about change. Extended Grace seeks to build community while solving problems.

GiveCamp Clinic project: Work to integrate their existing systems into one cohesive solution.

 

Treetops Collective (Bridge Agency)

To create a welcoming community where every refugee woman in Grand Rapids has the opportunity to flourish.

DFG/GiveCamp project: Use the photography, video, and assets created at Design for Good to create a very clean designed website focused on strong messaging and a positive user experience.

 

Grand Rapids Public Museum School (Bridge Agency)

GRPMS’ mission is cultivating the next generation of creative, collaborative problem-solvers. Their curriculum and approach are shared with other schools, and they partner with various community organizations on place-based projects.

DFG/GiveCamp project: Create a parent portal that integrates into the existing website to communicate needs for volunteers, facilitate parent-teacher interactions, and coordinate schedules.

 

Michigan Blood (Bridge Agency)

Michigan Blood provides blood products and services for 75 hospitals throughout Michigan and collects more than 120,000 units of blood per year from volunteer donors at 9 permanent donation sites and more than 3,700 mobile blood drives in 40 counties statewide.

DFG/GiveCamp project: Bring the website up-to-date with cohesive branding, usability, and a solution to simplify the blood giving process.
