  • Area techie’s gathering in October to create web and software solutions for at least 20 local nonprofits
  • GiveCamp Announces 2011 Volunteer Weekend in Grand Rapids
  • Non-profits have until September 1 to apply for technology support

Grand Rapids, Mich.—GR GiveCamp, a volunteer-run organization that brings together technology professionals to build the technical resources of non-profit organizations, is announcing their second GiveCamp weekend to be held in Grand Rapids from October 21 – October 23, 2011. During each year’s GiveCamp weekend, roughly 75 to 100 software developers, designers, database administrators, web strategists, and other technology professionals create web and software solutions for about 20 non-profit organizations.
To date, GiveCamp has helped organizations create websites, track volunteers for an event, develop a donor database, run a silent auction, and more. At the 2009 event, 148 volunteers provided 23 local non-profits with an estimated $710,000 worth of services.
“The first GR Give Camp in 2009 was such a success for both the tech volunteers and the non-profits, that we hope to offer the same level of talent from the local tech community to fit the needs of the non-profits,” said Chris Woodruff, coordinator of GiveCamp in Grand Rapids. “At times like these, there may be many projects on an organization’s wish list that seem challenging to tackle because of funding or staff resources. GiveCamp is one way we can give back to organizations that already give so much to our community.”
“GRGiveCamp is an exciting opportunity for non-profits to capitalize on the enormous talents of computer professionals in our area, “says Cyndy Vogt, director of marketing and communications at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, which benefited from the 2009 GiveCamp. “GRGiveCamp created a website for an important project. It was a great experience.”
Non-profit organizations and volunteers are invited to learn more and apply to participate at GRGiveCamp.org. The deadline for non-profit applications is September 1, 2011.
GR GiveCamp is also looking for sponsors to help with the event. Download the Sponsorship Kit for more information.
